PAST SOCIALS:2010 Spring Social - "See You At The Races!" March 13th, 2010 - Tampa Bay Downs View from the Winner's Circle
At 6:00 p.m on Saturday, October 17th, 2009, about 70 CEO Council members decked out in tuxedos or ties, with their spouses decked out in slinky gowns, approached the location of the Fall Social at Mainsail Suites Hotel & Conference Center, the newest “in” place, full of mystery and expectation.
Secret Service Agents greeted the guests with a stern face and few words, quickly taking their car away, leaving the scene of the crime. A hardhearted Security Guard checked each guest for a concealed weapon prior to granting entrance into the event. The guests followed the red carpet into the foyer where they were greeted by SuperTeam "Bond Girls" Laura Farina and Connie Hunt, established their identities for the evening, proceeded down the postered glass-enclosed hallway to find two of James' contemporaries, one blonde, one brunette, atop illuminated dance pedestals. The stunning, guntoting beauties posed with the guests and set a mysterious, dashing mood for the rest of the evening. Next, guests were led outside to the sparkling waterfall overlooking the brand new 7,000 square foot Decked Terrace --- and offered a Martini…shaken, not stirred. Martini in hand, the guests were met by their host, Proprieter Joe Collier, in white tux jacket, and his gorgeous Bond-Girl/wife Camille. They were welcomed also by Chairman Mark Anderson, smooth operator as always, and Executive Director Jane Toombs/Bond Girl Maude Adams. Guests visited with each other, enjoying the perfect 70 degree sunset, and were offered a sumptuous array of passed appetizers, before partaking on four fabulous served buffet stations - a raw bar featuring shrimp, crab claws, oysters as big as your fist, and chilled mussels. A side station of mouth-watering cheeses, fruits, crackers and accompaniments paved the way for the Steak Diane, the carved tenderloin, the shrimp risotto, the hot buttered shrimp dish, the full pasta station with assorted sauces, and a variety of other delicious treats too many to name. Once fulfilled, the guests bid farewell to the crisp fresh air of the oncoming nightfall and strolled into the atmosphere of Mainsail's new Conference Center "a la Casino Royale" where some partook of Black Jack, Texas Hold’em, Craps and/or Roulette.
The melodious sounds of "Off the Cuff," a four-piece band with an incredible variety of Bond music, era pieces and dance repetoire invited guests to the beckoning mid-section of the dance floor. White sleek couches and multi-colored, lighted, cubed coffee tables amongst a stunning set of dramatic screen backdrops created a unique atmosphere. Attendees appreciated the lounge-type setting, which offered the ultimate ambiance to discuss their favorite James Bond movie, music, caper or Bond Girl in between dances. The dessert display and striking circular of chefs creating bananas foster flambe continued their service, along with the open bar, until later into the evening.
It was an evening which will long be remembered by CEO Council members, thanks to the hospitality of our host Joe Collier, and his fabulous staff at the Mainsail Hotel, Executive Suites, and Conference Center!
